The author, Nizām al-Dīn ‘Abd al-‘Alī Muhammad b. Husayn Bīrjandī, the celebrated mathematician, most probably wrote the book in 929 AH/1523 AD. His birth date is not exactly known but his death is recorded to have been in 934 AH/1528 AD.
Among his works are Bīst Bāb dar Ma'rifate Taqwīm, (Twenty Chapters on the Knowledge of Taqwīm) and Sharhi Risālah Usţurlāb by Khājah Nasīr (A Commentary on Khāja Nașīr's Treatise on the Astrolabe), etc.
In the present book, the author briefly discusses issues of benefit to the farmers in twelve chapters, hence Davāzdah Bāb dar Kishāvarzī (Twelve Chapters on Agriculture), on beans, grains, tree planting, transplanting, fruit picking, fruit keeping, etc.
